When attempting to backup VM files on a volume mounted via GUID on a failover cluster, the backup will fail. To resolve the issue you need a hotfix

If you attempt to store VM files on a volume that is mounted in a failover cluster with just a volume GUID reference and not a drive letter, the backup solution will fail because it cannot find the file reference due to incorrect metadata processing by the VMMS.exe service. There is a hotfix available to resolve this issue.
