Microsoft has released a new hotfix for Windows Server 2008 that solves some issues and adds new functionality to Hyper-V clusters.

Microsoft has released KB951308 to the support web site to update functionality of Failover Clustering feature to be inline of the RTM version of Hyper-V.  This is a must load hotfix for Hyper-V host clusters.

  • Changes to the virtual machine view to add start, stop, shutdown, and turnoff to the actions pane
  • Replace Quick Migrate Virtual Machines and Move Service or Application action with Move Virtual Machine
  • Allow for more than one virtual machine in a "Services or Applications" group
  • Add support for mount points or volumes without a drive letter
  • Changes to the virtual machine refresh action so that all VMs in a service group are refreshed
  • Behavior changes if any node of the failover cluster has a disconnected virtual machine
  • Behavior change when you add a pass-through disk to a virtual machine
  • Behavior change when the parent differencing disk is not on shared storage
  • Ability to copy the Volume path from the failover cluster manager

Go read the Knowledge base article and test it out.

Note that while the hotfix enables multiple VMs per Service or Application Group, SCVMM 2008 beta does not recognize this capability.
